Repot a Phal - Step 4

This is a freshly repotted Phalaenopsis. Note that the base of the plant is about one inch below the rim of the pot. Don't forget to replace the nametag. Many growers also make a notation with a pencil on the back of the nametag as to when it was repotted and try to repot every year or two. For instance, RP 8/02 means that the plant was repotted in August, 2002. You can also note when it flowered and how many flowers there were. For instance 8)3/09 means that it had eight flowers in March, 2009.

Best results are obtained by witholding heavy watering for about ten days. Instead, mist the plant, making sure the leaves are dry by nightfall. Witholding heavy watering encourages the plant to produce more roots.

I use 5 parts medium orchid bark, 2 parts perlite or sponge rock (as coarse as I can find) and one part coarse peat moss or shredded sphagnum moss.  This is a pretty wet mix, but I have very high temperatures and great air movement.
