Bulb. saurocephalum (syn. Bulb. ebrachteolatum, Bulb. erythrostachyum) is a Philippine species found at medium altitudes. The name saurocephalum refers to it's snake head looking flowers (sauro = snake, cephalum = head) that emerge 4from its swollen, cylindrical, purple peduncle or spike. Up to 30 small flowers are produced per spike. The psuedobulbs are spaced 1-2 cm apart and have a single leaf up to 17 cm tall. We grow this warm and moist with good air movement. While we grow this in a pot with sphagnum moss, it's probably best grown on a slab for best viewing of the flowers and spikes.
